Enable or Disable Two-Step Verification in Yahoo Mail

Yahoo’s Two-step verification feature works as an added security layer to your account. Activating this feature in your Yahoo account sends a security code to your registered phone number each time you will sign into your account from a new device. You will need to enter this security code when signing into your Yahoo account.

Steps to Enable Two-Steps Verification Feature in Yahoo

1.) Log into your Yahoo Mail account and select your “Profile name” located in the upper-right corner of your Yahoo account’s page.

2.) From the drop-down menu that appears on your screen, click on the Account info option. You will be taken to the “Account info” page.

3.) On the Account info page, click on the “Account security” tab located on the left-hand-side panel of your screen.
NOTE: You might be asked to enter the password of your Yahoo account to access “Account security” section.

4.) Under “Account security” page, click on the “slider” icon located next to “two-step verification” option.

5.) On the next screen, you will be asked to enter your “mobile number” to enable “two-step verification” feature.

6.) After entering your phone number, click on the “Send SMS” button. Yahoo will send a verification code to your mobile number.

7.) Enter the verification code on the next screen and hit “Verify” button.
NOTE: You can also verify your mobile number via calling option instead of SMS option. For that, simply click on the “Call me” button instead of “Send SMS”.

8.) After your mobile number gets verified successfully, a “Success” message will appear on your screen. With the message, you will also be asked for “Create app passwords” option.

9.) App Password is required when you are using an app like Outlook, iOS mail, Mozilla Thunderbird that does not support two-step verification. If you are using any of these applications, click on the “Create app passwords” and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.

10.) However, if you are not using any such applications, you can click on the “Skip for now” button. And, from next time onwards when you will sign into your Yahoo account on a new device, you will get a verification code on your registered mobile number for accessing your account.

How to Disable Two-Step Verification?

1.) In your Yahoo Mail account, click on the Gear icon located on the top-right corner of your screen. A drop-down menu will appear.

4.) Under Account security, go to the Two-step verification option and click on the “Slider” icon.

5.) This will disable the two-step verification feature for your Yahoo account.
