Yahoo’s Two-step verification feature works as an added security layer to your account. Activating this feature in your Yahoo account sends a security code to your registered phone number each time you will sign into your account from a new device. You will need to enter this security code when signing into your Yahoo account.
If you wish to enable two-step verification feature in your Yahoo Mail account, follow the step-by-step instructions provided below in this guide.
Steps to Enable Two-Steps Verification Feature in Yahoo
1.) Log into your Yahoo Mail account and select your “Profile Name” located in the upper-right corner of your Yahoo account’s page.
2.) From the drop-down menu that appears on your screen, click on the Account info option. You will be taken to the “Account info” page.
3.) On the Account info page, click on the “Account security” tab located on the left-hand-side panel of your screen.
NOTE: You might be asked to enter the password of your Yahoo account to access the “Account security” section.
4.) Under the “Account security” page, click on the “slider” icon located next to the “two-step verification” option.
5.) On the next screen, you will be asked to enter your “mobile number” to enable the “two-step verification” feature.
6.) After entering your phone number, click on the “Send SMS” button. Yahoo will send a verification code to your mobile number.
7.) Enter the verification code on the next screen and hit the “Verify” button.
NOTE: You can also verify your mobile number via calling option instead of an SMS option. For that, simply click on the “Call me” button instead of the “Send SMS”.
8.) After your mobile number gets verified successfully, a “Success” message will appear on your screen. With the message, you will also be asked for the “Create app passwords” option.
9.) App Password is required when you are using an app like Outlook, iOS mail, Mozilla Thunderbird that does not support two-step verification. If you are using any of these applications, click on the “Create app passwords” and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
10.) However, if you are not using any such applications, you can click on the “Skip for now” button. And, from next time onwards when you will sign in to your Yahoo account on a new device, you will get a verification code on your registered mobile number for accessing your account.
