If you are being bothered by unwanted emails in your Hotmail account on Android, you can easily get rid of them by moving them to the Junk folder. Every email account including Hotmail comes with a separate folder to move unsolicited emails to it. Generally, when you move a spam message from your Inbox folder to the Junk folder, all the future emails from the same address are automatically moved to the junk folder. Guide to Check Hotmail Junk Mail on Android

NOTE: The email service which was earlier known as Hotmail has been changed to Outlook. If you will search for the Hotmail app on Google’s Play Store, the search result will also display Outlook application. So, the below-mentioned steps are based on Outlook mobile app.

  1. To Mark an Email as Junk in Hotmail on Android

  • Launch the Hotmail app on your Android device. If you are not already logged in to your account, sign in using the login credential.
  • Once you are logged in to your Hotmail app, you will be directed to the Inbox folder. From the Inbox folder, you will need to long-press on the email you wish to move to the Junk
  • As you will long press on the unwanted email, a couple of options will appear on the top-right corner of the screen. From the given options, tap on the Menu option (three vertical dots). This will open a drop-down menu on your screen.
  • From the drop-down menu, you will need to, tap on the Report Junk option. As you will tap on this option, you will see two options appearing on the bottom section of the screen: Junk and Phishing.
  • From the given options, you will need to select the Junk This action will pop-up a small dialog box on your screen where you will be prompted whether you also wish to send a copy of this email to Microsoft to improve security. If you wish to send a copy to Microsoft, tap on the Report option, otherwise No, Thanks option.

NOTE: If the email appears to be an attempt by a hacker to steal your information, select the Phishing option instead of the Junk option.

  • Then, the email will be directed to the Junk folder of your Hotmail account. You can check the Junk folder to see if the email is moved to it or not.
  • To check the Junk folder, you will need to tap on the Menu option (three horizontal lines) located on the top-left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear on your screen.
  • From the drop-down menu, you will need to tap on the Junk You will be directed to the Junk folder of your Hotmail account.
  • You can find the email you just now moved to the folder showing in the top section.

Mark an Email as Not Junk

If you ever mark a genuine email in the Inbox folder of your Hotmail account as Junk, you can retrieve it back to the Inbox folder by following these steps:

  • Go to the Junk folder of your Hotmail account as suggested above.
  • Once you are in the Junk folder, you will need to locate the email you wish to mark as not junk. After you locate the email, you will need to long-press on it.
  • As you will tap and hold for long on the email, some options will appear on the top-right corner of the screen. From the given options, tap on the Menu option (three vertical dots). This will open a drop-down menu on your screen.
  • From the drop-down menu, you will need to, tap on the Not Junk As you will tap on this option, the selected email will be moved back to its previous location.

While marking an email as Junk will help you from not receiving the email in the future from the same address to your Inbox folder, however, if you still get emails from it in your Inbox folder, you can consider blocking the sender. However, to block a sender, you will need to access your Hotmail account through a web browser as there is no Block option available for the Android application. Here are the steps to do so:

  • Open a mobile web browser on your Android device and sign in to your Hotmail account.
  • Select the Junk > Block (Spam > Block) option from the toolbar.
  • Then, tap n the OK The selected message will be removed and all future emails from this address will be blocked from getting delivered to your Mailbox.
